304 Stainless Steel U-Bolt

Corrosion-resistant ss round bend U-bolt in 304 grade , supplied complete with nuts and washers. Suited to marine, washdown and outdoor fixings where zinc plating won't hold up.

What actually defines a U-bolt

A U-bolt is a bolt bent into the shape of the letter U, with screw threads cut into both ends. U-bolts have historically been used to support pipework, which is why U-bolt sizes are often quoted in pipe measurements. A pipework engineer might ask for a "40 Nominal Bore" U-bolt, and only another pipework engineer would know exactly what that means — in practice, the nominal bore figure bears little relation to the bolt's actual dimensions.

U-bolts are now specified by a much wider range of trades to clamp tubing and round bar of every kind, so a clearer, more direct measurement system is needed: material, thread, inside diameter and inside height, set out plainly rather than translated through a pipe-sizing convention.

Beyond pipe supports, U-bolts are used to hold rebar cages in place and to mount overhead road signs, and ongoing research continues to look at novel U-bolt designs to improve interface shear resistance in steel-concrete composite beams.
